Alfie is our first born, and a bundle of joy he is too. He has Trisonomy 21 Downs syndrome, which means he has one more chromosome than you so-called normal people.

And the first person to pipe up and say any of the following gets a slap with a wet haddock:

• "Oh, but they make lovely babies" - thus implying that the rest of the world is populated by demon offspring.
• "There's a great special school in XXXXXX-town..." - fine, you check yourself in, and we'll pack Alfie off to a regular school like the majority of children with Downs syndrome these days.

He's just a baby people! He eats, he poops, he laughs and he pulls hair, often all at the same time. Just accept it - we have!
